sock news

i decided not to rip the sock apart. i think i can live with the distorted-ness, it's not that bad.

what is bad however, are the directions for the heel.

i know i'm missing something, but i have no idea what.

this is the sock now. it's definitely snug. i would've preferred a looser one, but not after knitting half of it.
the only mod i've done (so far) is to repeat the point thing twice more at the end. in the original, it's all blue, and i just don't strand that well to cover that much ground with the white. if i need to cover more than 7 or 8 stitches (even with catching the carry under a stitch) i wind up with the carry too tight. i plan on continuing some sort of fair isle down the foot as well... if i can ever get to the foot.

see this is why teh internets is awesome. emmacrew knew what vague thing i was talking about even though i didn't.

i *hate* this...

you're working merrily along on a project, and it looks great. you go to try it on, and it's about 1/4" too small. big enough to go on, but small enough that it really distorts the pattern.
see this?
it's a sock. looks great, right?

right. i put it on, and it gets all distorted. *sigh* i have to decide if i should continue, or if i should rip back to the cuff and do a different pattern for the sides. one that's about 3 or 4 stitches wider.
(yarn is some random wool i picked up at a sale, the blue i dyed. it's not quite fingering weight.)

on the other hand, the garden shawl is going well. even if it looks like some sort of weird mutant hat.

the yarn is a 50/50 merino cashmere cream colored laceweight.
in the middle (off center) is the beginning of the leaf bit and the first flower in the "path".
